Making Tax Digital software for sole traders
Keep records MTD-ready throughout the year. Quarterly summaries, End of Period Statements, and SA103F exports are built in. Direct HMRC submission is in development. From £12/month.
MTD for Income Tax becomes mandatory from April 2026
HMRC requires sole traders with gross self-employment income over £50,000 to keep digital records and submit quarterly updates using compatible software from 6 April 2026. The threshold drops to £30,000 in April 2027. (Source: GOV.UK.) TradeTally is built for MTD from the ground up — digital record-keeping and structured exports are core to how it works. Direct HMRC API submission is in development and not yet live; until then export your figures to file through any HMRC-recognised MTD software or share with your accountant.
What TradeTally does today
Digital records all year
Every invoice, expense, receipt, and mileage entry is kept in TradeTally from day one. No end-of-year scramble.
Quarterly summaries
Open the MTD view in the app to see cumulative figures for each quarter, with the MTD field breakdown.
End of Period Statement
Generated automatically when Q4 closes — your year-end summary, ready to review.
SA103F export
At filing time, the export endpoint produces a PDF that matches the SA103F box layout.
HMRC API integration
Built using the Self-Employment Business API v5.0 field set. Test mode is live in the app now.
Direct submission — coming
Quarterly updates, EOPS, and the Final Declaration will submit from inside the app once HMRC recognition is granted.
